Go only for J1.7, Joomla 1.6 is end of support and it's not worth to loose your time for it. Look for template clubs - they are supporting 1.7 only.

Thank you guys.

I am working on the frontend, making a good progress. Having in mind that Joomla 1.7 now supports non-transliterated aliases (thanks JM) I will probably drop support for URL generation by titles. From now on they will be generated from alias only and, if you don't want transliteration, you simply turn on Unicode Aliases in Global Configuration. Don't think anybody wants punctuation and special characters in their URLs anyway.

I am looking for end of September as the release deadline. It might as well come before that but this is what I can promise right now.

The main content component has been finished. The URLs are just as pretty as before, now with support for unlimited category levels. You can choose whether to include all categories and subcategories in the article URL or not.

The code has been restructured and is done with performance in mind with as few DB calls as possible.

Here are some URL examples:

http://site/sample-data-articles/park-site/photo-gallery/animals/

Support for suffix, custom space character, archive, pagination etc. have also been done. Working with converting the core components now.

A beta version should be ready for testing in a few days. If anyone is interested in giving it a spin let me know.
