AJAX Register and J! 1.5.17?

I have two sites that are set up almost identically.

The first is www.recumbent.tv , running on J! 1.5.15 and using AJAX Register successfully. The second is www.recumbent.fm , running on J! 1.5.17, but AJAX Register has a problem - it does not validate the CAPTCHA.

Switching between the native AJAX Register and reCAPTCHA doesn't make a difference - both fail.

Is it possibly related to the introduction of the new username field in 1.5.17?

I just tested with latest Joomla 1.5.18 and there are no problems with captcha validation.

I also tried to register on your site www.recumbent.fm and it was successful too.
