There are three SEF options in the default Joomla 1.5 control panel
What is the preferred setting for those in combination with SEF Advanced? I know about the id at the end (html) which I turn off.
Thanks!

SEF Advance will work with any combination of those settings, so it all depends on your preference and server capabilities.
Search Engine Friendly URLs: Yes (it must be turned on so you get SEF URLs)
Use Apache mod_rewrite: Yes (if your server supports mod_rewrite you should definitely turn on it, otherwise you would have index.php in your URLs but SEF Advance will work in both cases)
Add suffix to URLs: Your choice. If you choose Yes the suffix defined in SEF Advance configurations will be added to your links. Otherwise there will just be a trailing slash.

Do you know if your current release supports iJoomla News Portal?  I seem to be having trouble with new portal working...
