Unable to get correct frontpage to show!

In Joomla 1.5 I have set a new main menu item to link to virtuemart, and have set this as the default so as to use as my homepage,
With SEF advance turned off all works fine and i see the virtuemart page correctly. as my default homepage
With SEF advance turned on I see the original Joomla Frontpage, and my menu item for virtuemart does not work?
Any Ideas?
